Small and Simple Things

This week was pretty good overall. We had a few rough patches but that happens to the best of us I think :) the great news is that we found 5 new investigators! WHAT?! That's a miracle! The work will pick up here in Platty, I just know it.

I also know that I am supposed to be here that I may be humbled. Shocker huh? :)

We got to go to the Zoo last monday and it was incredible!!!!

#yayformaxidresses
I am so grateful that we were able to watch the Women's Conference this weekend! I really felt of God's love for me and ALL of his children. I'm sorry for not writing a lot today!

I hope everyone's Book of Mormon reading is going well :) It is for me. I continue to learn daily about the Atonement on just about every page. I hope y'all have a great week!

Plattsmouth (pronounced Plattsmith

Well, I am no longer in Kearney or with Sister Smith :( But I am in Plattsmouth with Sister Jones! Yay!

Leaving Kearney was one of the hardest things I've had to do but that is part of life. Saying "see you later"  to all of those awesome people was sad but one think is for sure: I am where Heavenly Father needs me to be. I just wrote an email to Syd Miles and I wanted to share something I shared with her. Our whole purpose in life is to learn to do Heavenly Father's will. That was Christ's whole purpose as well. D&C 19:24 "I am Jesus Christ; I came by the will of the Father, and I do his will." It is not easy for us to accept and do his will all of the time. The way that we know Heavenly Father's will for us is through prayer and scripture study. I testify that as we align our will with the Father's, we will become more like our Savior. It won't be easy but Christ knows what that is like. He knows perfectly how to help us.

I am so thankful to my Father in Heaven that his will was for me to serve a mission. This gospel is true and I know that with all of my heart. My heart has been changed as the people of
King Benjamin:

Mosiah5:2 "And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil."

This is all possible because of the spirit. We must surround ourselves with the spirit because that is how we change. Is there something in your life that you need to change? I promise that if you will seek God's will and surround yourself with the spirit that you will do it. You will change. I testify because it happened to me and I hope you all have felt that as you read these emails. Again, I love my Savior Jesus Christ.

That was kind of a rant! Sorry not sorry!

In other news, Sister Jones is awesome! I mean....just look at her!

Oh.... and I cut my bangs! ahhhhh!

Best friend bangs with sister Checketts!!!!

There is a LOT of work to be done in Plattsmouth, it willl probably be my hardest area but LETS DO THIS!

Oh also I'M GOING TO THE ZOOO, ZOO, ZOO, HOW ABOUT YOU?!
I'll let you know all about it next week :)

I LOVE YOU ALL!

It's beginning to look a lot like....Fall

This week was kind of crazy because we were out of our area for 3 days. Also not a ton happened but I will share what did.

We had delicious homemade pumpkin pie in Holdrege on exchanges this week. YUM!

We had the best zone training ever on Wednesday. It was all about being unified as a zone and companionship. There is a lot of power that comes with that Unity. Not just in a zone but in a ward or in a family and it all comes from the power of the Book of Mormon.

Thursday we finally got to teach our investigator, Leslie, again. It's been 3 weeks now. She has a desire to learn but she is afraid of a lot of things and those fears are holding her back from coming to church. She is slowly but surely progressing.

While we're on the subject of investigators Lupe came to church, all 3 hours. The miracle is that she was late so we thought we were going to miss the sacrament while we waited for her. Turns out, they didn't have any bread so the young men were running all over trying to get some. This like rarely happens! Lupe got there before the bread so we all made it to the sacrament! If that's not a miracle, I don't know what is :)

While we're on the subject of Lupe, she's set for baptism on October 11th! She introduced herself in relief society and the lady conducting asked if she was a member or just visiting or investigator (not sure if she had a clue what that meant) and cute little Lupe goes, "I'm going to be Mormon."

I am so grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who will forgive me no matter the mistakes I make. 2Nephi 28:32

"Wo be unto the Gentiles, saith the Lord God of Hosts! For notwithstanding I shall lengthen out mine arm unto them from day to day, they will deny me; nevertheless, I will be merciful unto them, saith the Lord God, if they will repent and come unto me; for mine arm is lengthened out all the day long, saith the Lord God of Hosts." The same is true for all of you! No matter what, Heavenly Father loves you and will always welcome you back if you will REPENT. I love you all and hope you have a great week!

This week in Kearney!

I can't believe it's the 5th week of the transfer! Like is crazy.

Let me tell you about one of our investigators. She had a sister who is a member and a brother who is anti so you can see how this would prove a little difficult. Well basically she believes in everything we do except she always says, "but i just don't believe in Joseph Smith." She asks a bunch of anti questions that just get us angry. The good news is that she likes Sister Dinkel and will listen to her. haha so Sister Dinkel will say it how it is boldly and we testify! It's kind of reverse but that's just how we like it. We're not to sure we'll keep teaching her but we pray her heart will continue to be softened.

We did an exchange on Wednesday-Thursday. Sister Wilson and I taught a lesson outside at about 8:00 and we got eaten alive by chiggers. I literally have never itched so bad in my life! If you don't know what a chigger is, look it up. *Shout out to Kate-remember when we first learned about chiggers at EFY in Nauvoo!* Pray for me!

Well, it was September 4th so you know what that means!!!! (Maybe just Chase does....Beyonce's Birthday) Now, the only reason I bring that up is because Elder Tatafu is in my Zone, therefore we celebrate just like we did last year :)

Happy Birthday Beyonce!

I got to talk to Sister Call on the phone and I bawled like a baby. She may or may not have just 1 transfer left but I'm not letter her leave if she does.

We had our Stake Women's Conference on Saturday and it was awesome! SO many women showed up we were franticly setting up tables at the last minute. Lupe, the investigator came. Hopefully we will be going to the Trail Center with her this Sunday :)

I love this gospel. I love the Book of Mormon and I hope you all are reading it every day because it will help you to reach the potential God sees in you. Worth is right?!

I LOVE YOU ALL :)

Ahhh!

I really am struggling to know what to email because this week has just been oh so miraculous! So I'll start with quoting myself from my letter to President today.

This week was certainly one of the most miraculous I've seen in a while. These miracles are happening not just in Kearney but in all of the areas of these sisters. All of them now have a baptismal set and 4 out of the 5 were a star companionship! We know that it is because we are focusing more on the Book of Mormon that all of these miracles are coming to pass! I have never had more joy in my mission than I do now and I know it is because I am taking the time to notice the miracles and thank my Heavenly Father for them. This work is so rewarding but that is not what motivates me. When I first came on my mission I did it because Heavenly Father wanted me to. Once some time passed I realized my motives for being here was for my family and my future family to have the best chance in the world. Now, it is because I love my Savior and I want to serve him the best that I can!

We are finding new people to teach. The members are giving us referrals. Less-actives are showing up out of nowhere. It's incredible and Kearney is really picking up with missionary work. I hope i can stay here forever!!!!!! :(

There is a talk in October 2013 GC called Called of Him to Declare His Word and it talks about how when we serve selflessly we will find more joy than ever before and I know that is true. If you are struggling in any way look around you and see how you can lift one of God's children. I promise that service combined with reading the Book of Mormon, Praying and going to Church will get you through anything! I promise to write more next week! I love you all!

If you are reading along in the Book of Mormon we read through page 45 today. There's still hope :)

Following the example of Jesus Christ!

Howdy Y'all,

It sure has been an eventful week, I hope I can say all that I want to!

I'm gonna start with the best! KAREN WAS BAPTIZED AND CONFIRMED! It was so stinking great! She was so ready and is on fire. She shared her testimony at the baptism and is was so sweet. She is going to make a huge difference in the Kearney area. The Elders are already recruiting her for team-ups and she wants everyone to feel how she does. Karen once asked what we get for getting a baptism and we told her "blessings!" and she said, "not even a Bucky Beaver badge?" So she made one for us!

I was all sorts of sick this week, it's amazing how Satan tries to do anything he can to stop the work. After zone conference on tuesday, a bunch of missionaries had some stomach issues on Wednesday (Sister Smith and I included). Then Friday I thought i was having really bad allergies but it ended up being a cold or something. I think i'm getting over it....maybe.

Zone conference was so amazing. We are really making a push to inviting all to read from the Book of Mormon.

*Starting today we are reading 5 pages a day until Dec 8th to read the whole thing before Christmas and I want to invite all of you to do that!*

I know the BOM is the most correct of any book on earth. The reason we read it daily is to be more converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am so thankful for the many prophets and people who sacrificed that we could have this great book.

I love you all so much! Keep on reading :) Let me know if you'll be joining the mission to read the BOM by Dec 8th !

400 days of.....

400 days of a mission! We've been on the mission for 400 days, can you believe that? We won't talk about how many that leaves us with...

How was y'alls week?

This week was so....great and crazy and busy.

So Monday night sister Smith and I get a call from the TP sisters (Sister Call and Sister Nelson) saying that they got my letter and they wanted to know when we would be at the trail center the next day with Karen. We set it all up so that Sister Call could surprise her :) Muahahaha! It was so funny because on the way to Omaha Karen said, "Last night as I was laying down I realized we should have set something up with Sister Call and have her meet us there." She tried to pick up on our facial expressions but we have such good poker faces, she couldn't :) haha

So many miracles happened on Tuesday at the Trail Center...where do I begin? I guess with the beginning:
1. Karen's mom came with us so that was a blast. She is the cutest, funniest thing I've ever known.
2. We were in the front taking pictures when we first got there and guess who pulls up? Sister Case and Sister Mahlstede! I never thought I would see Sister Case again until after the mission (she is now a trail center sister, aka perfect for her!) The cool thing is that they were only there for a few minutes. Lucky Ducky
3. Karen hadn't told her mom that she was getting baptized yet and so she thought this would be a good way to "break the news to her." Half-way through the tour she got a copy of the Book of Mormon and gave it to her mom and invited her to read it. She then told her the news and her mom was so happy she high fived us :) haha I guess you could say she took it well. Nancy, her mom, had so many great questions and it was really fun teaching her about all the pioneer stuff. She is really interested in family history.
4. As we were walking over to the pioneer cemetery a big 15 passenger van with a trailer pulled up. They had 2 bingham miner stickers on it and I immediately guessed that it was the Christensens. We walked over to the Cemetery and I kept my eye on them. As soon as I saw the mom I realized I was correct, it was them. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES? Karen reminded me that it's all Heavenly Father....duh! After we looked at the cemetery and temple we went back over to the TC and I went and found them. I only really know the twins, Emily and Elise. I found Elise and it turns out she is just going home from her mission in Kentucky. Her family had picked her up a week ago and they were heading back. Emily is on a mission in Canada. I was in the Riverton children's choir with them, we golfed together in high school, and our cousins are married. It was so cool to talk with her about her mission for a minute.

Ahhh so much to say so little time.

Well Karen passed her baptismal interview although they played a trick on us saying she wasn't ready.....So Thursday August 21st is the big day!

I love you all so much! This work is they work of the Lord's so we can't fail.
